Yikes…I haven’t posted here since summer!  But I’d rather wait to post when I have something to say rather than to post drivel that is written just to fill the page.

Since I last posted on my website, I have seen PAINTED IN BLOOD in which I play the main character’s firm and unapologetic boss.  The film has yet to be released, however, I’ll share here and on my Facebook page when it is.  As happens so often when I see myself on screen, I saw some things I wish I had done differently.  I need to learn from those choices and just move on, which I have.  But the film is good, and I think the director, Aaron Mirtes, is getting better each time he directs.  This leads me to my next project coming up.  I can’t divulge much here, but I am shooting another horror film with Aaron in December based on a very popular streaming series. My character is a bit like Martha Stewart and I can’t wait to play her. It’s going to be a fun project.

Though I have been an actor performing in professional theatre productions since I was five (yes, really!), I never joined Actor’s Equity Association (AEA), the union for professional actors until this year. The AEA has relaxed the requirements to join until Spring of 2022. Prior to this relaxation of requirements, an actor had to work a certain number of weeks in an AEA production to be eligible to join.  Though I have been in a few AEA productions, I never accumulated the number of weeks within a certain time frame to join – until now.  Being an AEA member has been a goal of mine and I’m thrilled to now be a member of AEA.  However, the downside is that I cannot work in live productions without an AEA contract. That means I cannot perform in the Murder Mystery Company until they work with AEA to get me a contract.  And though that may happen, it won’t be soon for several reasons. I miss performing live so much. But even with an AEA contract, until the COVID pandemic is behind us, I don’t feel comfortable performing live even though I am fully vaccinated. Still, I have met a goal as an actor that I thought I might never reach.  Now I am a proud union member.

Speaking of the pandemic, I shot a promo video for the book Restarting the World: A New Normal After a Pandemic by H. Norman Wright & Bryn Edwards. I was happy for the work when I booked it, but honestly grumbled about being a background player.  However, onset I saw many friends and was able to catch up with them.  And, the crew was so nice! I ended up having a wonderful time.  I am now embarrassed that I ever complained about it.  I haven’t seen this video, but it could be running in churches or on Christian religious sites and you may have seen it.

And finally, I recently shot a training video for the American Case Managers Association (ACMA). I was in another educational video for them in 2019 and this year they requested me for this new video. That is a huge compliment that they wanted me again. I had a great time onset, though admittedly I had to practice saying some medical jargon so that it sounded like I use those words all the time. Before the shoot, I was walking around my house repeating things like “hemodynamically stable” and “clinical decompensation.”  It was like learning a new language. But it was a fun shoot, the crew was great and I took a photo of the cast.  Here it is below:

One positive result of the pandemic is that casting directors realized they don’t need to see talent in person to cast them.  Consequently, I have already had more auditions this year than in any previous year.  I’ve been seen by casting directors who would have never considered talent in the Southeast until the pandemic.  And I believe going forward, this will be the norm.  The more I audition and the more casting directors that see me will eventually mean more work.

The holidays are upon us, and Thanksgiving is in a few days.  I have much to be thankful for and I hope you stop to reflect on what you are grateful for as well.  As always, I am also grateful for your interest in my career.

Thank you.

Alice
